Who can apply?

To be eligible for the program, businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a commercial and industrial (C&I) waste service at a site in NSW.
  • Have a valid ABN and employ one or more full time employees in NSW.
  • Undergo a waste assessment to apply for the rebate.
  • Businesses that are registered charities, not-for-profits, public entities (including schools and hospitals), and government organisations.

Step 1: Conduct a comprehensive waste audit
Have a clear understanding of your business waste generation patterns, waste volume and waste types. Complete the initial waste assessment through the Bin Trim App or contact Bin Trim directly at bin.trim@epa.nsw.gov.au.

Step 2: Obtain a quote from Wastech
We will work closely with your business to identify, design and implement tailored waste management systems that align with your requirements.

Step 3: Submit your application
Following the initial waste assessment, applicants must Form 1 – Application Form (with required attachments) on https://epa.smartygrants.com.au/.

If you are a new applicant to SmartyGrants, you will need to register and create a password. If you are already registered, you can log in with your existing username and password.

Step 4: Undergo assessment
EPA will assess and decide on your application around 4 to 6 weeks after you submitted your Form 1.

Step 5: Accept the rebate
You must accept and execute the rebate within 30 days of receiving the Funding Deed.

Step 6: Procure equipment
Within 3 months of executing a Funding Deed, applicants must procure, install and commence use of equipment or technology.

Step 7: Submit form 2 on equipment procured
Submit Form 2 with required attachments within 3 months of executing the deed.

Step 8: Provision of rebate funding
Within 30 days of submitting Form 2, EPA provides the rebate funding.

Step 9: Undergo follow-up assessment
Between 3 to 6 months after installing and commencing use of the equipment or technology, you must complete the follow-up waste assessment using the Bin Trim App.

Step 10: Submit form 3 outcomes report
Submit Form 3 Outcomes Report with required attachments 3 to 6 months after installation and follow-up waste assessment is complete.

Step 11: Operate and maintain equipment
Ensure to operate and maintain equipment for 12 months (if leased) or 5 years (if purchased).
