Marking its 28th year, the Coffs Waste Conference 2024 took place last May 14 to 17 at the Opal Cove Resort, Coffs Harbour.

The event welcomed more than 700 delegates from all sectors of the waste industry, including local and state government, the private and not-for-profit sectors, as well as academia and research organisations with a common goal to collaboratively innovate, motivate and educate towards a sustainable circular economy.

In case you missed the in-person and live stream action, we rounded up some insightful and exciting highlights from the conference.

Here is what happened:

Innovative exhibition: Wastech at Booth 36

Wastech’s team of subject matter experts led by Scott Russ, Djanisa Trinder, Greg Scott and Brianna Celotti welcomed guests on booth 36 showcasing our Smoothtube Systems.

Wastech has been pioneering the design of Australia’s first plastic chutes helping high-rise residential buildings to efficiently handle their waste for many years now.

Chute demonstrations highlighted the features of our Chute Diverter, a smart and space saving equipment for waste handling and recycling that is perfect for high-rise structures.

Our very own Djanisa Trinder also had an insightful chat with Waste2024 correspondent Thomas and discussed the functionalities of our Diversion Chutes and a walk through on the product.

Helping businesses through consultancy

The exhibit not only showcased innovative products but also served as an avenue to help businesses achieve their sustainable goals.

Wastech’s team of waste management and resource recovery experts connected with business owners and provided them with sound consultancy.

These included free waste assessments and insightful discussions that identified the best solutions and equipment for their specific business needs.

Informative and engaging sessions

This year, national and international presenters shared their knowledge, experience, case studies and insight into the waste industry through a series of presentations.

Wastech Engineering General Manager Sales & Marketing, Scott Russ shared his insights on Mitigating the risks of lithium-ion battery fires focusing on the role of Fire Rover – the revolutionary technology built for automated fire suppression.

Delegates also had the chance to participate in various workshops including focused groups about managing asbestos waste, interactive activities on sustainable fast fashion upcycling, and creative sessions illustrating circular economy concepts.

Building networks through exciting social events

The delegates were given the opportunity to build relationships and share their common goals through different social events which helped spur collaborative actions and lasting impressions in the industry.

The welcome reception on the first day not only served as a social gathering but also an event for a cause. Coffs Waste Conference team, in collaboration with waste recycling groups implemented the #ReturnandEarn program was able to collect hundreds of used bottles and cans that will be converted to cash and donated to their chosen foundation, Little Wings Australia.

The fun does not stop there, Wastech also attended the costumed themed dinner showcasing the delegates in their best heroes and villains costume— an evening filled with creativity and camaraderie.

Collaborative efforts for the future

This event testifies how collaborative actions bring together like-minded people towards building a stronger community that envisions a brighter path towards sustainability.

Overall, Waste 2024 created a unique environment for evolution of new ideas and opportunities through sharing knowledge, exploring new business relationships, better understanding the impacts of government policy and regulation, and creating a platform for discussing and advocating for change.

We at Wastech truly had an amazing time connecting and sharing insights with various guests and industry leaders at the Coffs Waste Conference 2024 and are looking forward to the next conferences to come.
