Building On Our Promise

For more than 30 years, Wastech Engineering has worked with organisations across Australia to solve complex waste management challenges through practical, engineered solutions.

Since Wastech was established in Victoria in 1993, the waste industry has changed considerably. Customer requirements have evolved, technology has advanced, and businesses are placing greater emphasis on safety, efficiency, sustainability and whole-of-life value.

Wastech has evolved with those requirements. What has remained consistent is the way we approach the work: understand the challenge, apply practical engineering expertise and deliver a solution designed to perform in the real world.

That is what “Building On Our Promise” means.

At the centre of our approach is a simple commitment:

Design. Develop. Deliver.

It is supported by three principles that reflect how Wastech works with customers today:

  • Built on Quality.
  • Driven by Innovation.
  • Supported Nationwide.

Together, they describe how we continue to deliver value beyond the equipment itself.

Who We Are

Wastech was founded in March 1993 in Victoria by brothers Neil and Paul Bone, with a small team focused on solving customers' problems.

More than three decades later, that practical, problem-solving approach remains central to how Wastech operates.

Since its beginnings, Wastech has continued to develop its engineering capability, equipment range and national support network as the requirements of the waste industry have evolved.

Today, Wastech combines that long-standing practical experience with continued investment in engineering, innovation and customer support.

We are an engineering business first and foremost.

While equipment is an important part of what we deliver, the value comes from understanding how that equipment needs to perform within a customer's site, process and broader operational requirements.

Every operation is different. Site conditions, waste streams, volumes, available space, safety requirements and operating processes all influence the right solution.

Our role is to understand those requirements and apply engineering expertise to develop practical solutions around them.

That is what differentiates an engineering-led approach from simply supplying equipment.

Design. Develop. Deliver.

Design. Develop. Deliver. describes how Wastech approaches every project.

  1. Design

Starts with understanding the customer's requirements and operating environment. It means looking at the application as a whole and determining what the solution needs to achieve.

  2. Develop

Is where engineering capability is applied to turn those requirements into a practical solution. Wastech combines mechanical, electrical and automation engineering expertise with extensive experience in waste management to develop, customise and integrate equipment and systems.

  3. Deliver

    Extends beyond supplying equipment.

Installation, commissioning, servicing and ongoing technical support are all part of delivering a solution that continues to perform throughout its operational life.

For customers, this matters because the value of waste management equipment is not determined at the point of purchase. It is determined by how reliably and effectively it performs over time.

That is why Design. Develop. Deliver. remains at the centre of how Wastech works.

Built On Quality

Quality starts with engineering fundamentals.

It means understanding the application, selecting the right components and applying sound engineering principles throughout design and manufacturing. It continues through installation, commissioning, servicing and ongoing support.

For customers, quality means equipment that is designed to perform reliably in demanding operating environments.

It also means considering what happens after installation.

Reliable equipment can help reduce downtime, minimise maintenance requirements and maintain more consistent operations. This contributes to better whole-of-life value and greater confidence in the investment.

Wastech's ISO 9001 Quality Management and ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety certifications are issued by Southpac, reflecting the organisation's commitment to quality and safety standards across operations.

But quality is not limited to a certification or a specification.

It is the discipline applied across the entire process — from understanding the application and engineering the solution through to delivering and supporting it in the field.

Driven By Innovation

Waste management operations are changing, and equipment needs to keep pace.

For Wastech, innovation means continually improving the way our solutions perform in real operating environments. It involves developing equipment, refining existing solutions and investing in technologies that can help customers operate more efficiently, safely and sustainably.

Recent developments across Wastech's equipment range reflect this approach: the focus isn't simply on introducing new equipment, but on continually improving how solutions perform, integrate into customer operations, and deliver value over their working life.

That includes improvements to equipment design, efficiency, usability, reliability and maintenance, as well as the continued development of solutions for different operating environments.

Innovation is also extending beyond the equipment itself.

Wastech is investing in smarter waste management technologies, including advanced monitoring and reporting and smart weigh systems — approaches explored further in Boost Sustainability with Smart Waste Technologies.

Better information can support better decisions — whether that means identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, understanding equipment utilisation or managing waste processes more effectively.

This is an area that will continue to develop as technology becomes more integrated into waste management operations.

Energy efficiency and sustainability are also increasingly important considerations in engineering and product development. Wastech continues to explore how equipment, technology and operational processes can work together to reduce inefficiencies and support more sustainable outcomes.

For us, innovation is not about technology for its own sake. It is about applying engineering capability and new ideas where they can make a practical difference to the way customers operate.

Supported Nationwide

Delivering equipment is only one part of the customer relationship.

Wastech provides ongoing technical support and servicing to help customers maintain the performance of their equipment throughout its lifecycle.

With more than 100 staff across Australia, service centres in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, and more than 20 skilled technicians, Wastech has the capability to support customers across the country.

National support is particularly important for organisations operating multiple sites or distributed networks. They need access to technical expertise and service capability wherever their equipment is located.

Equipment also needs to be supported as operating conditions change.

Maintenance, repairs, upgrades and engineering requirements can arise throughout the life of an asset. Having an experienced team that understands the equipment and its application allows those requirements to be addressed effectively.

Supported Nationwide therefore means more than having a national footprint. It means providing the technical capability and ongoing support customers need to maintain their operations and maximise the value of their equipment.

The Promise In Practice

Ultimately, our role is to help customers operate more efficiently, reliably and safely.

Today, Wastech supports more than 2,800 customers across multiple industries, maintains over 16,000 assets in the field, and delivers more than 24,000 service and repair jobs annually — a scale that reflects the trust placed in us by organisations of all sizes.

Our solutions support retail, hospitality, manufacturing, logistics, supermarkets, distribution centres, warehouses and government operations, including vertical balers and compactors supporting major retail and logistics operations.

Wastech also supports organisations including Amazon, Bunnings Warehouse, Cleanaway, Coles, Costco Wholesale, DHL, Hickory, Veolia, Monash Health, Super Retail Group, Woolworths, Vicinity Centres and Scentre Group.

These organisations operate in different environments and have different requirements. What they have in common is the need for waste management solutions that work reliably within their operations.

Customer relationships are an important measure of that performance.

Customer feedback has highlighted Wastech's ability to support different areas of an organisation, from site and contract administration through to estimating and accounts. Other customers have recognised the responsiveness of Wastech's service and its ability to provide support across national networks.

That reinforces an important point: delivering value is not simply about supplying a piece of equipment.

It is about understanding the application, developing the right solution, delivering it effectively and continuing to support it over time.

Committed To A Circular Future

Part of our promise is not just equipment that performs today. It is an engineering and manufacturing approach that is built with the future in mind.

The waste industry has an important role to play in improving resource recovery, reducing inefficiencies and supporting more sustainable operations — a shift explored further in Embracing Circular Economy.

Wastech contributes through waste handling solutions that help organisations improve operational efficiency and resource management.

Sustainability is also being considered within our own operations. Wastech's Hallam facility is supported by an 85kW solar array, reflecting the business's focus on improving the efficiency and sustainability of its manufacturing operations.

Technology will continue to have an important role.

Monitoring, data and smarter equipment can provide greater visibility of waste operations and help businesses identify opportunities to improve performance. As these technologies develop, they will create further opportunities to manage equipment and waste processes more efficiently.

For Wastech, sustainability is increasingly connected to engineering and innovation.

It is about finding practical ways to improve performance while considering the longer-term impact of how equipment is designed, manufactured and operated.

Looking Ahead

Wastech is continuing to build its capability around the changing requirements of customers and the waste industry.

Looking towards FY2027, the focus includes strengthening national service capability, developing repair centre capacity, continuing equipment innovation and investing in the infrastructure required to support customers effectively.

The objective is straightforward: continue developing practical waste management solutions that help customers operate more efficiently, safely and sustainably.

The waste industry will continue to evolve. Expectations around automation, energy efficiency, sustainability, safety and operational performance will continue to influence the way organisations manage their waste.

Wastech's role is to keep pace with those changes while maintaining the practical engineering approach that has shaped the business for more than three decades.

That means continuing to invest in engineering capability, technology, equipment development and customer support — and applying those capabilities where they can create genuine value for customers.

The Promise Itself

Building on our promise means continuing to improve the way we Design. Develop. Deliver.

  • It means understanding that every customer and every site has different requirements.
  • It means applying engineering expertise to develop solutions that are reliable, practical and fit for purpose.
  • It means continuing to invest in innovation as technology and industry expectations change.
  • And it means supporting customers beyond installation, with the service and technical capability required throughout the life of their equipment.

Many people know Wastech for the equipment we provide. What sets us apart is the engineering expertise behind it — the ability to understand an operational challenge, develop the right solution and support that solution over the long term.

That is what Built on Quality, Driven by Innovation and Supported Nationwide represents.

These principles are already part of how Wastech operates. Building On Our Promise is about continuing to strengthen them as we look ahead.

More than 30 years after Wastech began, the objective remains straightforward: understand the challenge, develop the right solution and stand behind it.
